Pop the champagne and get ready to dance. It’s time for tuxes and husbands and cake! Oh my! Summer weddings are upon us. And in honor of the celebratory season, Glam highlights our ten favorite wedding flicks.
10 – In and Out, 1997
Kevin Kline, plays charmingly clueless, Howard Brackett, a lovable Midwestern school teacher who finds himself a bit baffled. Soon to be married to prim, pretty, and hilarious Emily Montgomery (Joan Cusack,) he is shocked when a former student outs him as gay man while accepting an Academy Award. His perfect small-town world suddenly changes. Despite Kline’s protests, everyone around him starts treating him differently. And when Peter Malloy (Tom Selleck,) an openly gay television reporter comes to town to report on the story, Brackett finds himself more confused than ever.
9 – Sweet Home Alabama, 2002
Reese Witherspoon is Melanie Smoother, a Southern gal turned fabulous fashion designer who’s about to have it made in the shade. Her handsome boyfriend, Andrew Hennings has just proposed in a dreamy scene that has every girl wondering why her fiancé can’t rent out Tiffany’s for an evening. But before she ties the knot with the man of her dreams, she has to travel back to her home town to finally divorce the redneck hubby she married in high school. But getting divorce and starting a new life proves to be mission impossible ... I mean, Patrick Dempsey vs. Josh Lucas!?!?!

8 – The Wedding Singer, 1998
Welcome back to the 1980s. Where the uglier the dress, the happier the bride. And a not-so-great the wedding singer, means a fabulously fun party. Wedding crooner Robbie (Adam Sandler) and his waitress friend, Julia, (Drew Barrymore) are tired of working these big-time bridal parties. (Always the waitress, never the bride.) Good thing they’re both engaged. Will these soul mates realize that they’re stuck in dead-end relationships, before they tie the knot to their respective cheating, lying, icky fiancés?

7 – Honeymoon in Vegas, 1992
Long before her Sex and the City Days, Sarah Jessica Parker played Betsy, a gal desperate to get married to her commitment-phoebe boyfriend Jack Singer (Nicolas Cage,) – sounds sorta like SATC. They plan to marry in Vegas, but when he starts to have doubts (and loses a ton of money in a gambling game) in swoops millionaire, Tommy Korman (James Caan). Jack must win back his lady-love … but faces challenges (i.e. a plane full of sky-diving Elvis impersonators) along the way.
6 – Runaway Bride, 1999
Julia Roberts is Maggie Carpenter, the small-town the bride on the go in this sweet romantic comedy that reunites Roberts with Richard Gere. He plays Ike Graham, a journalist investigating Carpenters’ ultimate commitment phobia. (PW alum Hector Elizondo also has a bit role in this movie.) While the chemistry is back, and the love story has us tearing up and clapping, it’s no Pretty Woman … But we still watch it every time it comes on.

5 – Wedding Crashers, 2005
Vince Vaughn + Owen Wilson = 90 minutes of fun. John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey are serial daters who spend their weekends drinking, playing, and prowling for desperate bridemaids at weddings they weren’t invited to. But when one of them starts to fall for the maid of honor, the hard-partying twosome start to disagree about their free-spirited, mooching lifestyle. Is it time for them to grow up and stop crashing? P.S. Isla Fischer steals the show as a crazy, obsessed, man-hungry bridesmaid.

4 – Four Weddings and a Funeral, 1994
Who doesn’t love quirky British comedies? Charlie, played by the always debonair Hugh Grant, is on the quest for true love. He falls for an American gal, Carrie (Andie MacDowell,) but, soon learns that, she’s otherwise engaged. The movie follows the lives of Charlie and his friends, their ups, downs, their weddings, and one unfortunately funeral.
3 – The Wedding Planner, 2001
Always the planner, never the bride. Jennifer Lopez stars as Mary Fiore, the talented, ambitious, and always-prepared wedding planner to the rich and famous. When she meets handsome pediatrician, Dr. Steve Edison (Matthew McConaughey) May falls head over (stylish) heels. One problem: he’s her biggest client’s hubby-to-be! With great performances by ultimate chick-flick sidekick Judy Greer and a quirky-cute pre-Grey’s Justin Chambers, we simply adore this sweet and spicy fun-loving flick.
2 – My Best Friend’s Wedding, 1997
Julia Roberts is Julianne Potter, the subtly sexy BFF to a chiseled, charming, and super-sexy Michael O’Neal (Dermot Mulroney). This tomboy never thought of her guy pal in a romantic light – until he finds a fresh-out-of-college fiancé, that is. Julianne’s quest to win Michael’s heart is relatable (and cringe-inducing). Cameron Diaz shines as the blond, bubby bride-to-be. Her overly sweet manner and sorority-girl looks make us hate to love, her character, Kimberly Wallace. Yes, this flick definitely put Ms. Diaz on the Hollywood radar. (Oh, and we have to mention Rupert Everett’s pitch-perfect perky performance.)

1 – Father of the Bride, 1991
George Banks (Steve Martin) wants the best for his little girl, Annie. But when she gets engaged, he goes a little crazy at the thought of losing his youngest daughter, paying those hefty wedding bills, and dealing with a funny, foreign wedding planner. This is the bittersweet romantic comedy that will make every daughter appreciate her daddy. And every father relish the time with his little princess.
